Creating a Diverse Society, Together, with Masato Koyamada
Canon Medical Systems has supported para-athlete, Masato Koyamada, since 2015. Mr. Koyamada lost his right forearm in an accident when he was two-years old, but his disability did not stop him embracing the challenges of sport, at which he excels. In his childhood, he was passionate about playing baseball. And since 2014, he has competed as a professional para-golfer using one arm. He now also gives lectures and lessons in golf to able-bodied people.

Mr. Koyamada enjoys competitive successes in golf both inside and outside of Japan. In 2023, he participated in the U.S. Adaptive Open Championship held in the U.S.A., as one of three Japanese golfers who were selected from a total of 285 entries. He also participated in Japan’s Open Golf Championship for People with Disabilities as same as last year.

As others become aware of his story and are inspired by his will and strength to continually move forward, Mr. Koyamada is often invited to give lectures and interviews, as are the doctors who support him with healthcare.
Mr. Koyamada won the Grand Prix division of Japan’s Open Golf Championship for People with Disabilities held in October 2023.
His future goals in golf include participating in the Senior Championship and Tour. In addition, he continues to lobby for para-golf to be recognized officially as a Paralympic event.

In addition, He usually has about 20 to 30 lectures a year for schools and companies. In his lecture, he talks about the disabilities and diseases he has experienced, what kind of mindset and encounters he has overcome, and conveys that even people with disabilities can realize their dreams with hard work and strong will.
